MPP Lalonde, Orléans, on the Ford government’s attack on Francophonie in Ontario

Doug Ford is showing us he has no issue with Franco-Ontarians paying for his damaging Conservative ideology.

Without consulting anyone in the sector, Ford rolled back years of work with the Franco-Ontarian community by cutting the French Language Services Commissioner and cancelling the Ontario Francophone University.

Governments are supposed to ensure the wellbeing of their communities. With this attack on the tolls Franco-Ontarians have to prosper, the Ford government shows us they believe the opposite. Ontario’s Francophonie is a key player and an undeniable contributor to Ontario’s economic, cultural and social development.

All of this is on top of the partial elimination of the Ministry of Francophone affairs, the refusal to renew support programs for the Francophone community and the possibility of the loss of our observer role to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. It’s evident now that Ford and his government are no friend to the Franco-Ontarian community.

I urge Ford and his ministers to reconsider these incredible cuts, taken without consideration for francophones or our wellbeing. Today is the day for action… Notre Place!
