Liberals in Kitchener—Conestoga Nominate Melanie Van Alphen as 2022 Ontario Liberal Party Candidate

September 23, 2021 – Liberals in Kitchener—Conestoga have nominated Melanie Van Alphen, a school board trustee and the chair of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, as their Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) candidate for the next provincial election.

“Families in Kitchener—Conestoga deserve an MPP who will always work for them, and who will ensure our children receive the best possible education,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “As a school board trustee, Melanie has spent years working to achieve this goal, and I know that at Queen’s Park, she will continue to fight for Ontarians.”

In 2014, Van Alphen was elected as a trustee for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, and is currently serving her second term along with serving as the chair of the Board. In her work as a trustee, she has proven to be a strong advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion for all students, teachers, and staff. Van Alphen continues to listen to the people she serves, aiming to address their concerns through thoughtful consultations, meaningful actions, and informed policy changes.

Van Alphen believes that everyone deserves access to the resources and supports they need to live a full and successful life. If elected as the MPP for Kitchener-Conestoga, she will continue to work toward this goal for those in her riding, and for all Ontarians.

“I am honoured to join the passionate and diverse group of Liberal candidates across Ontario as the candidate for Kitchener—Conestoga,” said Van Alphen. “I am committed to listening with compassion as we work towards positive and equitable change for all.”
