Del Duca Responds to Provincial Announcement on Gig Workers

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, has issued the following statement:

“Doug Ford’s Conservatives have spent every day they’ve been in office fighting workers. They froze the minimum wage for years, took away the right to full and fair collective bargaining by capping potential raises for nurses and other public sector employees at 1 per cent, and cut paid sick leave in 2018 before being forced to at least temporarily bring back just a few paid days during the pandemic.

“Workers know they can’t trust Doug Ford and his Conservatives. Sadly this announcement is an election ploy and nothing more. He will do or say anything to get re-elected, but a vote for Doug Ford is a vote that will ultimately harm workers and reward his well-connected friends.

“An Ontario Liberal government will champion the interests of all workers. We see the changes announced today as the bare minimum the government can do to help those in the gig economy and look forward to sharing a real plan with the release of our platform.”
