Director of Communications, Office of the Leader

The Director of Communications, Office of the Leader, is responsible for planning and executing the communications strategy for the Leader’s Office. The position exists to support the Leader and further the overall communications narrative of the campaign. The position reports to the Chief of Staff to the Leader. 

The right candidate for this position is someone who is comfortable multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment, adherence to a non-traditional and rigorous work schedule, while demonstrating organizational aptitude and versatile interpersonal skills. Salary commensurate with experience.

Key qualifications:

  • Experience volunteering on Provincial Liberal Associations
  • Experience in previous campaign roles
  • Experience working as part of a team in rapidly changing situations
  • Past communications experience 
  • Past media relations experience
  • Ability to multitask 
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • A team player who can work with staff, volunteers, and elected party executives
  • Demonstrated political experience and networks are assets
  • Strong political instincts, reliability, and discretion 
  • Bilingual English/French is an asset

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish, lead and execute a multi-channel communications strategy for the Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party
  • Create and launch press releases and marketing campaigns for the Leader
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Campaign Team, key narratives and campaign strategy
  • Produce content for editorial pieces and speeches
  • Oversee the process of all communication products
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers in the Party, Caucus and Leader’s Office
  • Coordinate with Party, Caucus, and other Campaign communications to ensure synchronized messaging
  • Work closely under the Chief of Staff to the Leader to ensure rapid and reliable communication between the Leader’s Office and the wider communications team
  • Provide support around the leader’s involvement in key Ontario Liberal Party events, such as the Annual General Meeting, Provincial Councils, Regional Meetings
  • Support in the management and response to media inquiries and wider media engagement
  • Ensuring that behaviour, attitude, and conduct is aligned with the expectations required to maintain the professional brand and image expected of the position
  • Other tasks as deemed necessary for ensuring success
