Virtual Question Period: May 7

The legislature may not be sitting – but Ontario Liberals are hard at work holding the government accountable. Here’s what we would have asked if Question Period was held today.

ORDER!

Question for the Premier of Ontario: Premier, we learned from the CBC this morning that inspections at Ina Grafton Gage Home were conducted over the phone.

15 residents have died there. Staff lodged complaints but no one ever followed up in person. Inspectors placed some phone calls, rubber-stamped an approval and hung up.

Will the Premier commit now to having every single long term care home inspected in person?

Supplementary: Premier, staff at Ina Grafton Gage Home, and other long term care facilities across the province, don’t have proper access to PPE. The Premier says they just need to pick up the phone and ask – but doesn’t he understand that its his government that’s blocking the use of N95s by long term care workers? This is a matter of life and death – will the Premier finally commit to giving long term care staff N95 masks?

Question for the Premier of Ontario: Premier, workers across Ontario have joined our call for a public inquiry into long term care deaths once this pandemic has passed. Will the Premier today commit to holding that inquiry – yes or no?

Supplementary: Premier, we’ve seen a staggering number of deaths in long term care homes. Families deserve to know the truth about what happened to their loved ones – and what could have been prevented. Will the Premier finally close the loophole on contract workers to ensure staff cannot work at multiple long term care facilities?
