TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:
“It’s time for the government to rapidly expand the amount of testing locations in the province – this is something I have been advising for weeks. Other provinces have already tapped into pharmacies to utilize them for COVID-19 testing. We need hundreds of new locations so we don’t see the line-ups we do now.”
“Across Ontario we are hearing of testing facilities that are at capacity as soon as they open. This just isn’t acceptable.”
“Moms and Dads shouldn’t be in line all day struggling to get a test so that their kids can return to school.”
“For this to work correctly we need hundreds of new locations and vastly expanded lab capacity – the testing backlog has hovered around the 40,000 mark for days. Pharmacies that take part need to be safe for the seniors who shop there, the people who get tested, and the workers. It’s vitally important only asymptomatic Ontarians are tested in pharmacies.”
“Doug Ford has known all along we would need more testing. He had six months to get a plan in plan for the fall. Ontarians are tired of long lines, they deserve to see his full plan for a second wave, today.”
