Steven Del Duca Statement on World Oceans Day

Today marks World Oceans Day, a day to recognize the importance of clean and healthy water and to commit ourselves to environmental sustainability. We celebrate the role of oceans and clean water in our everyday life and work towards protecting it.

Keeping our oceans and water sources healthy is vital to our lives. From the food we eat to the air we breathe, water is essential to our environment and health.

This year, we celebrate the theme of “Innovation for a sustainable ocean.” We recognize that we can and must do more to protect our oceans and marine environments, and now more than ever we must do more to combat climate change, which is a dire threat to our oceans and our lives.

Today, please do your part to help keep our oceans and water systems clean: opt for a reusable water bottle, not plastic, buy sustainable seafood, and more. We can protect our water for future generations, but we can only do it together.
