Steven Del Duca Makes Statement Celebrating Colombian Independence Day

Today, we join with Colombian-Ontarians and the people of Colombia in celebration of Colombian Independence Day.

This day commemorates the anniversary of the 1810 Declaration of Independence that led to the creation of the Republic of Colombia, declaring their independence from the Spanish Crown.

With over 40,000 Colombians living in Ontario, Colombians are one of the largest South American populations in Ontario. Whether it is eating delicious Colombian staples like empanadas or arepas, or the work of Colombian artists like Gabriel Garcia Marquez, we join Colombian Ontarians in celebrating their unique culture and history.

While this year’s celebrations will be challenging and unique, the spirit of Colombia will flourish.

On behalf of myself and the Ontario Liberal Party, I wish all of those celebrating a Feliz Dia de la Independencia! Viva Colombia!
