Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement on the beginning of Purim:
“Tonight, Jewish communities in Ontario and around the world will begin celebrating Purim.
Purim celebrates the Jewish people being saved from destruction in the ancient Persian Empire, by Queen Esther and Mordecai.
While this year’s celebrations will certainly look different because of COVID-19, I know that Ontario’s Jewish community will find ways to celebrate Purim, safely at home.
Every day, Jewish Ontarians contribute so much to our province, and today we also celebrate those contributions.
Jewish people continue to face acts of antisemitism, both globally and right here at home. It’s important we always speak out against these hateful acts, and stand with those facing discrimination.
On behalf of my family and the Ontario Liberal Party, I wish all those celebrating a joyful Purim.
