Statement from Steven Del Duca on Holodomor Memorial Day

The Holodomor was a genocide that perpetrated against millions of innocent people in Ukraine. Today we remember the horror and those who perished.

Make no mistake, the starvation of countless Ukranians by the Soviet regime was intentional. This was a starvation designed to break the will of the Ukranian people.

But the Ukranian people were not broken. Their language and culture did not falter, and in 1991, they achieved independence.

For decades, the Holodomor was ignored and it was denied. But today, we teach Ontario’s students about this important event so that it can never be forgotten.

On behalf of the Ontario Liberal Party, I commit to building a strong relationship between Ukraine and Ontario and never forgetting the Holodomor.
