Statement from Steven Del Duca on Children and Youth in Care Day

“Today, on Children and Youth in Care Day, we raise awareness for the approximately 12,000 children and youth under the care of our provincial government. We also recognize the important contributions of children and youth who are or were under Ontario’s care.

I was so proud to be a member of the Ontario Liberal government that proclaimed Children and Youth in Care Day in 2012. Every year since, I’ve been proud to stand with children and youth in care.

Each year, 800-1,000 young people age out of Ontario’s child welfare system. As allies of children and youth in care, it’s crucial that we set them up for success when they leave the system. That means recognizing the status quo isn’t enough, and more needs to be done to support young people under provincial care.

Today I hope you will all join me, my family, and the Ontario Liberal Party to stand with Ontario’s children and youth in care, and to celebrate their incredible bravery.”
