Statement from Steven Del Duca Celebrating Shavuot

Tonight begins the Jewish festival Shavuot.

This festival commemorates the giving of the Torah to the newly freed Jewish people at the foot of Mount Sinai. It is also a celebration of the harvest.

In Ontario and around the world, Shavuot is often celebrated with eating dairy foods like cheesecake and blintzes, reading the Book of Ruth and staying up late studying Torah.

While of course many of those celebrations will be different – and virtual – this year, the themes of joyful celebration, study and gratitude will be present for all of us.

On behalf of my family and the Ontario Liberal Party, I want to wish all those celebrating a chag shavuot sameach!
