Statement from Ontario Liberal Party

Today, Steven Del Duca, leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, met with Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Health Minister Christine Elliott, Finance Minister Rod Phillips, and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic.

Del Duca suggested – and the Premier agreed – that these Team Ontario meetings between the Opposition Leaders, Premier and Senior Cabinet Ministers should occur on a regular basis moving forward.

Del Duca highlighted Ontario Liberal suggestions to fight Wave 2 of the pandemic, including the recommendations from the Ontario Hospital Association for a regional approach to stricter control measures, including the closure of casinos and indoor bars.

Del Duca urged the Premier to focus on expanding lab capacity for testing, boosting pay for frontline workers in our nursing homes, and stressed that parents remain concerned about the return to school.

Del Duca and Premier Ford agreed that the pandemic should be the number one priority of all political parties and that more needs to be done to boost Ontario’s economic recovery.

Del Duca looks forward to another Team Ontario meeting next week.
