Statement from MPP Mitzie Hunter, Ontario Liberal Critic for Finance & Treasury Board

During today’s speech, Ontarians expected The President of the Treasury Board to answer some of the tough questions facing Premier Ford’s government.

How is the Conservative government going to keep their many promises? How are they going to cut program spending by $6 billion dollars without any layoffs? Which social programs will be cut next?

The speech has come and gone and still Ontarians are left without answers.

Why won’t they answer these questions? What are they hiding and not prepared to say?

The Minister’s speech lacked specifics and left the big questions unanswered. He chose to highlight cost saving measures already in place by the Liberals instead of provide anything in the way of fiscal clarity.

What is clear is that we can expect austerity to come in the form of more cuts to programs and services.

Every individual in this province deserves a government prepared to govern. The Conservatives need to deliver a plan and give Ontarians the answers they deserve.
