Statement from Leader of the Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie on Guru Nanak Gurpurab

Today, we celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak Sahib, a time to reflect on his teachings of unity, seva (selfless service), and compassion.

As Sikhs in Ontario and around the world gather to honour his teachings, all of us in Ontario can take inspiration from Guru Nanak Sahib’s message. We are fortunate to have a vibrant Sikh community here in Ontario, whose contributions enrich our society and whose spirit of giving strengthens us all.

I know this Gurpurab comes at a challenging time for the Sikh community. Anti-Sikh sentiments are on the rise, creating an atmosphere of fear. In Ontario, we must stand united against hate in all its forms—every community deserves the right to practice their faith freely and without fear. Together, as Ontarians, we must work to eradicate hate and foster the unity Guru Nanak Sahib so beautifully championed.

To everyone celebrating today, I wish you a joyous and peaceful Gurpurab.
