Statement from Bonnie Crombie on the Anniversary of Auditor General’s Greenbelt Report

TORONTO, ON – Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, released the following statement ahead of the first anniversary of the Auditor General of Ontario’s scathing report on Doug Ford’s Greenbelt scandal:

“Doug Ford and his Conservatives can’t be trusted. They put their rich friends first, and Ontario families last.

“One year ago, Doug Ford was caught giving $8.3 billion worth of Greenbelt land away to his rich donors and well-connected insiders—and he’s facing a criminal RCMP investigation as a result.

“He wants you to think he’s sorry, but it’s clear Doug Ford hasn’t learned a thing:

  • He gave a $1 billion handout to rich companies just to get beer in big box stores a year early;
  • He sold off ServiceOntario to Walmart and Staples;
  • And he is spending $800 million of your money to build a parking garage at Ontario Place to benefit a foreign company.

“It’s clear, Doug Ford is spending his entire time as Premier cutting sketchy backroom deals for his well-connected friends and insiders

“He even brought his friend, Steve Clark, the Greenbelt Fall Guy, back into cabinet. Doug Ford isn’t sorry for trying to give the Greenbelt away to his rich friends, he’s only sorry he got caught.

“You deserve more. While Doug Ford continues to reward his rich friends at the expense of Ontario families, Ontario’s Liberals are ready to bring back a government that people can trust.”
