TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberals, made the following statement:
Yesterday secret new documents revealed that Doug Ford’s Wave 2 Plan is for nursing homes to fend for themselves.
Ford had the summer to recruit, retain and return personal support workers (PSWs) to the long term care sector. But he ignored every call for additional staffing recruitment and refused to pay care workers a fair wage. Doug Ford took a bad situation and made it worse, leaving long term care homes with less staff and resources.
His solution would be to write nursing homes to tell them they are on their own.
Instead of making the necessary investments in long term care over the summer, Ford went on a needless victory tour. He was and is more concerned with politics than he is our most vulnerable seniors.
Ontarians need real leadership. We cannot allow vulnerable seniors to be put more at risk. Doug Ford is always doing too little, too late. It’s time for him to make the proper investments in long term care to keep residents safe.
