Premier Scrooge Hordes Billions While Ontarians Suffer

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“Today’s report from the Financial Accountability Officer (FAO) confirmed that Doug Ford hoarded $12 billion in funding that should have been used to save lives.

Doug Ford refused to spend on measures that would have saved lives and livelihoods. Instead, Premier Scrooge sat on unspent money throughout the second wave.

Now, the Accountability Officer is revealing that the funding may end up going towards paying off the deficit instead of saving lives. How can Doug Ford justify this callous budgeting to families who’ve lost a parent or grandparent to COVID-19? It’s heartless.

Ontario Liberals would make full use of COVID-19 funding. That starts with safe class sizes before students return from the holidays, securing nursing homes, and providing immediate support to small businesses who’ve suffered as a result of Doug Ford’s negligence all summer and fall.”
