Overdue Lockdown Should Take Effect Today, Include Direct Funding For Businesses

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“Doug Ford’s overdue lockdown won’t start for another five days. This is five full days of new infections and more lost family members. This lockdown should have been announced when it was decided on yesterday, taking effect at midnight today.

Doug Ford has given Ontarians a five-day countdown, which will only serve to overwhelm retailers and force panic buying.

Doug Ford should have focused on providing urgent support to allow businesses to close today. He needs to provide immediate and direct funding to small businesses to cover their bills, make payroll and help them survive the pandemic. The measures announced today are not even close to what is necessary to help keep the most badly affected small businesses afloat.”
