Ontario’s Liberals Promise to Deliver a Fair, New Deal for Municipalities

A Liberal government would empower municipalities with a new funding model

OTTAWA, ON – Today, Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, delivered remarks at the 2024 Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s (AMO) Conference — promising to be the strong partner our municipalities deserve, while also committing to deliver the new, fair deal they need.

“When I’m elected Premier, we’re going to fix our healthcare system. We’re going to improve our education system. We’ll protect the things that matter to the real people of Ontario. And we’ll grow our economy and make life more affordable. That includes getting municipalities the tools they need to build the towns and cities of tomorrow. And working together with municipal councils—and with our partners in home-building—to help build housing so seniors can downsize, and to make homeownership a reality for our kids.”

— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals

Bonnie Crombie and Ontario’s Liberals are working to bring back a government that’s going to deliver more for you—a government that fights every day to ensure municipalities and their residents have what they need so everyone has the opportunity to get ahead, not just Doug Ford’s rich friends.

“The reality is that Ontario’s Municipalities need a new, fair deal. We’re asking you to do a 21st-century job with 19th-century tools. You need a sensible, modern way to fund your operations sustainably. So we’ll ensure you have the tools you need to deliver the services and build the communities your residents demand. So that together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous Ontario. I am committed to doing that work with you when we form government, because as a former Mayor, believe me when I say we need to better support our municipalities.”
