Ontario Liberal Party Demands Immediate Relief For Families

QUEEN’S PARK – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“It’s about time Doug Ford and his Conservatives signed a child care deal with Ottawa. His partisan delays and dithering have already cost Ontario families thousands of dollars. I will not let Ontarians pay for any more of Doug Ford’s mistakes and partisan games.

“That’s why an Ontario Liberal Government would make any childcare deal retroactive to January 1st of this year giving families a refund of $2,750 per child. Ontario parents shouldn’t be penalized for Ford’s delays. That’s not right, and today I’m pledging Ontario Liberals will ensure families get that money back.

“Already he’s cost families over $1,000 this year alone. If we win in June, the average family would receive $2,750 per child. This is in addition to our commitment to cut the cost of before and after-school care to $10/day within 100 days of taking office, and get to $10/day licensed child care for all ages by 2024.

“Groceries, gas and other basic living expenses are costing Ontarians more than ever. Families need a government at Queen’s Park that worries about their needs, instead of treating them like pawns in a political game timed around election cycles. These cynical political plays have real costs, and it’s Ontario families who are paying the price.

“If elected in June our first priority will be to start undoing the damage Ford and his Conservatives have done, not just in child care but in our hospitals, our classrooms and our climate too.”
