TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberals, made the following statement:
Here are the facts. Charles McVety knew legislation would be introduced to give his college new powers to grant degrees – even before he even formally applied for them. He put it in writing, right there for all to see, when submitting a name change application. It’s nothing but cronyism and political payback.
What we don’t know is how many meetings McVety and his Canada Christian College had with Doug Ford and his ministers. We don’t know because McVety has never registered as a lobbyist.
Ontarians deserve to know how many meetings Doug Ford granted McVety. Which ministers met with him – and on what dates?
It’s appalling that Doug Ford is using emergency COVID-19 legislation to sneak through a secret reward for Charles McVety, a Conservative supporter with a long record of hate, homophobia and Islamophobia. It goes against everything the Government of Ontario must stand for.
It’s disturbing that this entire affair was cooked from the very start. It’s clear that there has been coordination between Doug Ford and Charles McVety.
The time for secrecy is over. Doug Ford must come clean.
