MPP and Former School Board Trustee Lucille Collard Nominated as Ontario Liberal Candidate in Ottawa—Vanier

OTTAWA, ON – Lucille Collard, MPP for Ottawa—Vanier and Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) critic for Justice Issues and Francophone Issues, has been officially nominated as a candidate for the next provincial election.

“For years, Lucille has faithfully served the people of Ottawa—Vanier as a school board trustee, Chair of the Board of the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, and now their MPP.”

“Lucille brings a wealth of experience to our Ontario Liberal team, and is an integral part our plan to deliver less for Doug Ford’s rich insiders, and more for the people of Ontario. I’m thrilled to have her return as our candidate in Ottawa—Vanier!”

— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals

“I am thrilled to be nominated once again to represent the Ontario Liberal party in my home community of Ottawa—Vanier, especially today on Franco-Ontarian Day.

“It was education and francophone issues that got me into politics in the first place and I have valiantly fought for progress on those files and many others over the past four years.

“I know we have a lot of work left to do to build a stronger Ontario for all and I am ready to continue that hard work on behalf of the residents of Ottawa—Vanier.”

— Lucille Collard, MPP and Ontario Liberal Candidate for Ottawa—Vanier

Lucille Collard became part of the community of Ottawa-Vanier 35 years ago. Early on in her career with the Federal Government, Lucille had the privilege – and challenge – of supporting a number of hard-working Ministers and Members of Parliament. That experience taught her the power of politics as a tool to support communities and individuals across our country. Having completed a law degree at the University of Ottawa in 1999, she pursued a public service career as a lawyer, working in such areas as international trade law with the NAFTA Secretariat, administrative and regulatory law with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and public law with the Federal Court.

A mother of four, Lucille has long been very focused on advancing education as an essential building block of success for individuals and communities. In the early 2000s, she had a leading role in the opening of a new francophone public school where all students could benefit from an integrated intellectual, emotional and physical development program. Started as a pilot project in 2003, with 18 students, the school – Trille des Bois – was officially opened in 2010. Today, Trille des Bois welcomes over 600 students and is a pillar of success.

Building on this achievement, Lucille decided to run for public office and in 2010, was elected as a School Trustee for the Ottawa-Vanier, Ottawa-Rockcliffe sector. She was re-elected in 2014 and 2018, and that same year was chosen by her fellow trustees to serve as Chair of the Board of the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario.

Today, Lucille is as focussed as ever on bringing people and communities together. She is engaged in building supports for vulnerable people in the community and supporting the development of local organizations like the Vanier Museopark and La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins. She wants to use her acquired professional, political and community experience in service to her community.
