Team Bonnie Will Make Transit Safer for You

January 31, 2025

SCARBOROUGH – As Doug Ford runs away from his record of wrong priorities and failure, Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, was joined by Scarborough candidates to launch her transit safety platform.

Team Bonnie’s plan to deliver Safer Transit For You would:

  • Hire an additional 300 special constables (total) for TTC, OC Transpo, Metrolinx, and other major transit service providers across the province.
  • Establish the CARE Fund (Crisis Assistance and Response Enhancement Fund) to double investment in Mobile Crisis Intervention Teams.
  • Provide transit services with operational funding for safety equipment like cameras.
  • Install platform doors in all TTC subway stations.

“When I look around Doug Ford’s Ontario, things are not okay,” said Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals. “It’s not okay that people aren’t just using the subway or a bus to travel – they’re using it as a shelter from the cold. That’s not okay for them, and it’s not okay when your trip is interrupted or becomes unsafe. It’s not okay that people feel unsafe riding the subway every morning. We can – and we must do better.”

“Our transit system is not working as it should. Doug Ford’s Conservatives have chosen to spend billions of dollars on their rich buddies and insider priorities instead of giving communities the support they need,” said former Toronto Deputy Police Chief and Campaign Co-Chair, Peter Yuen. “Your tax dollars should be doing more for you – supporting those in need and cleaning up our transit system.”
