TORONTO, ON – Mary-Margaret McMahon, MPP for Beaches—East York and Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) critic for Environment and Climate Change, has been officially nominated as a candidate for the next provincial election.
“For over a decade, Mary-Margaret has tirelessly advocated on behalf of the people of Beaches—East York, both at City Hall as a Councillor and in Legislature as a critical part of our Ontario Liberal Caucus.
Mary-Margaret knows the importance of prioritizing sustainability while maintaining fiscal responsibility — and that’s exactly what we’ll do with her on our team. I could not be more thrilled to have her return as our candidate in Beaches—East York!”
— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals
“I’m ecstatic to once again have the chance to represent my community as the MPP for the beautiful riding of Beaches—East York; to be the voice for everyone, especially those most in need of support in our community.
I’m running again to continue the vital work we’ve started in championing the right thing. I’m ready, I was born ready!”
— Mary-Margaret, MPP and Ontario Liberal Candidate for Beaches—East York
A natural-born leader, Mary-Margaret McMahon was a strong City Builder long before she was elected to Toronto City Council. She worked tirelessly as a passionate volunteer on projects for a variety of organizations in her community ranging from environmental education, small business advocacy and streetscape beautification, to public awareness-raising on food security issues and initiatives.
In 2010 with an unprecedented landslide victory unseating an entrenched incumbent, it was evident that McMahon’s community believed in her ability to represent them effectively at the municipal level of government.
As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Beaches—East York, McMahon pushed forward critical legislation to raise awareness for the effects of natural disasters, as well as proposing both legislation and motions that would help tackle the climate crisis.
McMahon has a knack for bringing people together and inspiring them. Whether it is working across party lines on the floor or Council to achieve a unanimous vote or empowering residents to form advocacy groups to implement change in their neighbourhoods, she ensures everyone’s voices are heard and ideas valued. Mary-Margaret is a true collaborator.
