Healthcare, Affordability and Education Top the Ontario Liberals’ Legislative Priorities

QUEEN’S PARK – As MPPs return to the Legislature, the Ontario Liberal Caucus has outlined their top legislative priorities for the fall session: healthcare, affordability and education.

“Emergency room wait times are rising, the cost of living is skyrocketing, and students are falling further behind – all under the watch of Doug Ford and his government,” said MPP John Fraser, Interim Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party. “We cannot afford for the Conservatives to sit by as life gets worse for Ontarians.”

The Ontario Liberal Caucus will continue to push for solutions that address the most pressing issues currently facing our province:

  • We must prevent further ER closures, reduce wait times, and clear the surgical backlog by building up our healthcare human resources and increasing access to primary care.
  • Doug Ford has done nothing to make life more affordable for families. We need to reinstate real rent control everywhere in Ontario – both tenants and small landlords need reform. The government must also increase ODSP by 20% and reinstate the basic income pilot project.
  • The most important thing for students is that they remain in the classroom – that starts by giving our education workers the compensation they deserve.
  • Ontario needs a real plan to combat climate change and strengthen our energy security with clean sources – not by increasing our dependency on fossil fuels.

“Ontario Liberals are committed to fighting for the strong services and the better future families deserve,” added MPP Fraser. “Our team will continue to hold the government to account and ensure Doug Ford and his cabinet uphold their responsibility to make decisions that benefit all Ontarians.”
