Former Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board Chair Dawn Danko to be Nominated as Ontario Liberal Candidate in Hamilton Mountain

HAMILTON, ON – Dawn Danko, former Chair of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, will be nominated as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Hamilton Mountain.

“Dawn Danko has been a tireless advocate for public education and a dedicated leader in her community, serving as Chair of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.

“Her experience in delivering more for Hamilton families and her track record of getting things done will make her a fantastic MPP. I’m excited to announce that Dawn will be our candidate for Hamilton Mountain!”

— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals

“I’m excited to be the Ontario Liberal candidate for Hamilton Mountain. As a parent, Trustee, and former Chair of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, I’ve seen the negative impacts of underfunding on education, healthcare, and services in our community. I’ve worked with families who are struggling with the rising cost of living and concerns about safety. These issues need urgent action.

“Hamilton Mountain deserves a strong voice at Queen’s Park. The NDP, which has often represented this area, is too focused on extreme interests at a time when we need to get the essentials right.

“I’m proud to join Bonnie Crombie’s team because we share a commitment to addressing the key issues in Hamilton. Together, we can create positive change and build a brighter future our community and Ontario.” — Dawn Danko, Ontario Liberal Candidate for Hamilton Mountain

Dawn Danko, a dedicated advocate for education and community, is thrilled to step forward as the Ontario Liberal Party’s candidate for Hamilton Mountain in the next provincial election. With a career that spans health care, education and public service, Dawn brings an unmatched passion for building stronger, safer, more inclusive communities across Hamilton and the province.

Dawn has served as Chair of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB), providing direction and leadership to support the education of over 50,000 students in a system with a $700 million annual budget. She played a key role in educating and supporting the community during the pandemic, working to support students, staff, and families through major challenges. She also championed family collaboration and partnership, equity, and Indigenous education as part of strategic planning for the system. Her tenure as Ward 7 Trustee since 2014 has demonstrated her deep commitment to serving and engaging students, family, staff, and community to drive collaborative solutions.

With a Master of Science in Higher Education from Walden University and Bachelor Degree in Science and Radiation Sciences, Dawn has also contributed to transformation in health care and higher education. Dawn began her career as a Radiation Therapist at the Juravinski Cancer centre in 2003. She transitioned to teaching as Professor of Radiation Therapy at McMaster-Mohawk in 2011. Currently a faculty Curriculum Consultant at Mohawk College, Dawn has promoted innovative teaching and learning practices that prepare post-secondary students for rapidly evolving industries, and to be our future leaders.

Dawn’s leadership and community engagement extends to provincial panels, workshops, and public consultations, empowering others through education and dialogue. Her vision is clear: a strong, safe and prosperous Ontario with a responsible provincial government serving our communities.

Dawn is ready to bring her transformative leadership and unwavering dedication to her community to Queen’s Park, advocating for the issues that matter most to Hamilton Mountain and Ontarians across the province.
