Ford Meddling in Hydro One Continues to Cost Ontarians

TORONTO, ON – Today, Mitzie Hunter, Finance Critic for the Ontario Liberal Party reacted to news that Washington State regulators have blocked Hydro One’s acquisition of Avista Corporation.

“Doug Ford’s reckless conduct at Hydro One continues to damage Ontario’s interests. The state of Washington blocked the sale of their utility to protect themselves from Doug Ford’s political interference. The fact that this could even be a factor is a disgrace,” said Hunter.

“Media reports of PC interference at Hydro One are staggering and it appears there will be no end to them. The message from this decision should be clear to the Premier: stop meddling at Hydro One. That includes reigning in his chief of staff, Dean French, who has reportedly cost ratepayers $500,000 by insisting on the dismissal of an employee. French is reportedly also interfering with the selection of the new CEO.”

“Doug Ford need to understand that processes are in place for a reason, vindictiveness and cronyism are no way to run a province” finished Hunter.
