Lanark County Weekend Getaway Itinerary, Friday, Feb. 23 to Sunday, Feb. 25
Don’t just come for the Gala, make it an entire weekend getaway!
Lanark County is a bustling tourist area all-year-round with lots of fun events, shows, sights, and scenes for your travelling pleasure. From culinary delights and craft beverages to outdoor adventures, Lanark County has much to offer, making it the perfect weekend getaway destination.
With help from Lanark County Tourism, we are delighted to bring you this weekend getaway itinerary to help you plan your time around A Gala Evening on the Eastern Frontier with Bonnie Crombie.
In addition to the Gala, there are several events of note taking place in the area on the weekend of Feb. 23-25.
Because we know you’re all political animals, LFK PLA has organized Politics in the Pub with special guest Dr. Adil Shamji, MPP for Don Valley East and David Farrow, OLP VP Organization. Join local liberals on Friday evening from 7-9pm at Zak’s Diner, 515 McNeely Ave., Carleton Place, for a drink or a meal on you as we get fired up for the weekend!
If you’re a theatre fan and want to put politics on hold until the Gala evening, take in a local production of Jesus Christ Superstar by Orion Theatre Co. at St. Paul’s United in Perth on Friday evening. Get more information and tickets
If you’re on the bookish side, take in the Grand Author Takeover at the Grand Hotel in Carleton Place on Saturday afternoon. Several authors will be on hand for book signings and readings. Get more information and tickets
If you’d like to relax and take things at your own speed…
Did you know? Lanark County is the Maple Syrup Capital of Ontario (it says so on the sign!) We definitely recommend including a maple attraction in your weekend plans. Wheeler’s Pancake House is a great choice. Find the most up-to-date hours and attraction information on their Facebook page (see facebook.com/wheelersmaple)
If you’re interested in the culinary scene you may want to start with some of the destinations on Lanark County’s Sip & Savour Trail (see savourlanark.ca). From chocolatiers, bakeries, and coffee roasters to bistros, and restaurants there’s a flavour for everyone’s taste. You may also want to visit one of our craft beverage creators, from beer to spirits, there are many creative libations to discover (see lanarkcounty.ca/en/tourism/craft-beverage.aspx).
If you like to explore and take in a bit of culture, consider taking in an art gallery or museum, or two on your travels. Here are a few great options to explore:
Sivarulrasa Gallery in Almonte, 34 Mill St.
The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum in Almonte, 3 Rosamond St. E
The Carleton Place Art Gallery in Carleton Place, 210 Bridge St.
The Katherine Muir Miller Art Gallery in Perth, 22 Gore St. E
Studio 87 in Perth, 87 Gore St. E
If shopping and antiquing are high on your list of activities, take some time to hunt down that special find by visiting Downtown Almonte along Mill St., Downtown Carleton Place along Bridge St. and Downtown Perth along Gore and Foster Streets. Our communities are well-known for unique shops and quaint artisan establishments.
Lastly, if outdoor winter activities get you excited, throw your skis or snowshoes in the car, and come on down! There are many beautiful hiking trails for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing (see lanarkcounty.ca/en/tourism/parks-trails.aspx). And, if the slopes get your adrenalin going, visit Mount Pakenham for a day of downhill skiing – they also have groomed hiking trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
