Doug Ford Must Close Dangerous Long Term Care Loophole

Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberals, made the following statement:

“Doug Ford has lost control of COVID-19. A dangerous loophole was left wide open last spring when Doug Ford said that personal support workers could only work at one nursing home. And it’s putting our parents and grandparents at risk.”

“This dangerous loophole allows temp-agencies to move personal support workers that are not directly employed by nursing homes wherever they please. Meaning these so-called “agency workers” are still being sent from home to home – potentially spreading COVID-19 from one home to the next.”

“Over the summer, Doug Ford did absolutely nothing to recruit, retain and return personal support workers to nursing homes. Now they are facing a staffing crunch with no end in sight.”

“Doug Ford was warned about the state of long term care homes in January. Despite this, it was months before any action was taken.”

“It’s time for Doug Ford to make further investments in long term care – and it’s time for him to close the loophole that he created. He must restrict all workers to one home and protect our loved ones in long term care.”
