Del Duca: Reopen Schools Now, Safely

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“I’m glad that every kid in Ontario will have the chance to return to school in the weeks ahead, but we need to ensure it’s done safely. Doug Ford is betraying parents and their kids by falling to bring class sizes down and allow for physical distancing.

Last July, Ontario Liberals presented a plan to shrink class sizes to 15 students and make our schools safe. This was based on the advice of teachers and top doctors. But Doug Ford just doesn’t listen.

The first thing we learned in this pandemic was that physical distancing works. But Doug Ford clearly hasn’t learned a thing.

Doug Ford must take urgent action to cap class sizes at 15 today. It’s his chance to show leadership on a challenge that’s gone unsolved for too long.

Ontario needs a Premier who will ensure safe schools. Doug Ford is failing to lead, but Ontario Liberals would put people first and spend the money to secure our classrooms now.”
