DEL DUCA: Doug Ford’s Attempt to Reward Known Bigot Charles McVety Fails After Secret Deal Revealed

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“Today’s decision by the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board to deny degree granting authority to Charles McVety comes only after Doug Ford was caught red handed trying to do a sweetheart deal for his friend and well-known bigot.

It has previously been reported that McVety knew legislation would be introduced to give his college new degree-granting powers – even before he formally applied for them. He put it in writing, right there for all to see, when submitting a name change application. It’s only after Ford and McVety’s secret plans were unveiled that this deal fell through.

Doug Ford’s attempt to secretly reward his friend, Charles McVety, is straight out of the American Republican playbook, but rewarding bigotry, Islamophobia and homophobia is almost unheard of in Ontario.”
