Del Duca: Disturbing Report of Racism at Hamilton School Board Warrants Immediate Action

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“This week’s report, detailing “overtly anti-Muslim and racist remarks” at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is shocking, and warrants real consequences. I am urging the school board to take real action against this hateful behaviour, and not allow those involved to keep discriminating against their colleagues.

My thoughts go out to the student trustee who was silenced by school trustees as she attempted to share her experiences. The school board owes her, and every other young person of colour, a sincere apology and concrete action to ensure this can never happen again.

Ontario Liberals will continue to stand against hate in all forms. It’s our duty to stand up and speak out against racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia and bigotry, wherever it happens.”
