CLARENCE—ROCKLAND, ON – Trevor Stewart, Ward 7 City Councillor in Clarence-Rockland and a champion for francophone rights, has been officially nominated as a candidate for the next provincial election.
“Trevor’s tremendous work in Clarence—Rockland advocating on behalf of Francophone residents, building out local road infrastructure, and attending to the needs of those in his community is impressive, and his commitment to the people of Glengarry—Prescott—Russell runs deep.
“I know that Trevor will be an incredible addition to our Ontario Liberal team, and I’m delighted to have him as our candidate in Glengarry—Prescott—Russell!”
— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals
“I’ve felt firsthand the cuts and mismanagement of the Ford government. It’s not normal that home ownership is so out of reach for so many or that folks have to wait years on a waitlist for critical surgeries or a family doctor.
“That’s why I’m running, to bring our rural region and the people who call it home the help they need. To bring prosperity back to farmers in our region or quality francophone services in our province. We owe it to ourselves to know that we can do better, we have to do better.”
— Trevor Stewart, Ward 7 City Councillor in Clarence-Rockland and Champion for Francophone Rights
Trevor Stewart is a dedicated community Leader that was born and raised in Hammond, ON. He attended elementary school at St-Mathieu, opened his first bank account at the local Caisse Populaire and worked his first job at the local Jean-Coutu. Like so many others, he grew up playing hockey all across our region from Embrun to Hawkesbury.
Trevor has had a passion for civic engagement his whole life and first got involved in politics when he was 16. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Conflict Studies and Human Rights at the University of Ottawa and has since worked on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell’s local MP Francis Drouin.
A passionate activist for the Franco-Ontarian community throughout his life, he was instrumental in organizing large scale protests against the Ford government’s cuts to the Francophone community in December of 2018.
In 2022, he ran for and won a seat at Clarence-Rockland’s city council representing the villages of Hammond and Cheney. As a councillor, he has championed increased road infrastructure, francophone representation and our rural interests.
After years of the Ford government’s cuts and apathy, Trevor is dedicated to bringing back prosperity to our region. He has heard from families who are struggling to find a family doctor, teachers without proper resources and overfilled classrooms and farmers who’ve been forced to sell off their land.
Trevor knows we need generational change and that’s he’ll finally bring our issues to the table and fight for our region which has been left behind by the Ford government.
