TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberals, issued the following statement:
“In 2018, Charles McVety handed Doug Ford the Conservative leadership on a silver platter. Now the Premier is in his pocket, returning the favour by giving Charles McVety’s college the power to grant new university degrees.
“This is simply a violation of everything Ontario stands for. That the Conservative Cabinet would allow these radical hate-mongers to hold control over Doug Ford shows us one thing; the moral rot in the Ontario Conservative Party is complete.
“Ontario Liberals will vote against Doug Ford’s endorsement of bigotry and hate in Ontario. We believe hateful views like those of Charles McVety have no place in our society, let alone our education system.
“If Doug Ford believes McVety’s bigoted views qualify him to grant degrees, it means he shares those views. As Premier, I will strike down this hateful measure.”
