Statement from Steven Del Duca on India Independence Day

Today we join with the people of India and the Indo-Canadian community in celebrating their 74th Independence Day.

On August 15, 1947, the Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, raised the new flag over Delhi, signaling the birth of an independent country.

The Indian community has long been a part of Ontario’s success story, and today this province is home to nearly three-quarters of a million people of Indian descent. Indo-Canadians have built strong and vibrant communities here, and have contributed to every aspect of life in this province.

While today’s celebrations are different from most years, on behalf of the Ontario Liberal Party I want to wish my very best to all of those celebrating India’s Independence.
