Steven Del Duca Celebrates Canadian Multiculturalism Day

Today on Canadian Multiculturalism Day, we celebrate the values which make Canada one of the best places in the world to live.

Since its birth, Canada has been a country of many cultures, and indeed was the first country in the world to commit to multiculturalism as a policy. We know that diversity is our strength, not an obstacle to be overcome. The values of compassion and respect are deeply ingrained what it means to be Canadian.

In Ontario alone, we have embraced multiculturalism for decades. Over 250 different ethnicities are represented in our province. More immigrants settle in our province than any other.

We know that there remains much work to be done. New immigrants face distinct challenges here, and it remains a long journey towards a more just society for Black and Indigenous Canadians, and all Canadians of Colour.

We must always stand up to hatred, xenophobia, and close-mindedness, learning from the mistakes of our past and laying out the path to a better future.

Today, we celebrate the multiculturalism that has built our province and our country. I invite all of us to take a moment and remember the contributions of people of all backgrounds, identities, and origins towards this great province.
