Del Duca Responds to Job Numbers

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, made the following statement:

Today we learned that Ontario is now an economic outlier in Canada. While every other province gained jobs in May, Ontarians continue to lose them.

We now know Doug Ford has no plan for Ontario’s economy. We continue to watch Ontario lag other Provinces in speed and clarity about how to curb the virus and plan for a return.

These delays mean the recession is hitting the most vulnerable the hardest. Women and people of colour, and young workers who have seen their summer jobs prospects completely wiped out.

We must be clear about what is happening. Those who were already struggling are now suffering more. As I’ve said for months, we must move fast to help those who need it most.

Doug Ford spent most of May missing testing targets and he has no plan to stabilize long term care homes and get this virus under control. Doug Ford has no plan for community testing, no plan for contact tracing – and no plan to reopen the economy.

While other Premiers across Canada have established clear plans to reopen their economies and create much-needed jobs, Doug Ford has come forward with no plan that provides families and businesses certainty.

Ontario’s continued job losses make it clear – Doug Ford needs to come forward with a plan to get our economy back on track.
