Doug Ford Addresses PC Convention After Week of Cuts and Chaos

TORONTO, ON – This evening, Doug Ford is speaking to delegates at the Ontario PC Party’s 2018 policy convention.

“This week Doug Ford and the PCs broke most of the promises they have made to Ontarians during the election campaign,” said MPP Mitzie Hunter (Liberal, Scarborough-Guildwood.) “They promised they would find efficiencies, that no one would lose their job and with the Fall Economic Statement, they are breaking the pledge they made to the people of Ontario.”

The 35 policies that the PCs are voting on this weekend fail to address protections for the labour force, the cost of living, transit, climate change or funding for services Ontarians rely on. While Doug Ford’s caucus has decided to avoid accountability by firing 3 independent officers of the Ontario Legislative Assembly, his government needs to be held to account.

The following list outlines harmful decisions and broken promises by Premier Ford:

  • On May 15th, Doug Ford promised he would not be removing rent control from new units, and is now eliminating rent control from new units.
  • Diminished accountability and oversight by eliminating the Ontario Child Advocate.
  • Eliminating Ontario’s Environment Commissioner, an individual who has been outspoken in the defence of Ontario’s water supply.
  • Rolling back of the minimum wage while cutting taxes for big polluters and Ontario’s richest citizens.
  • Allowing Tanya Granic Allen, who has made public Islamophobic and homophobic remarks, to submit two policy policies that are being voted on this weekend. Will she be writing more PC policies or consulting on the new curriculum?
