Statement from Steven Del Duca for Haitian Flag Day

Today, Haitians in Ontario and around the world celebrate Haitian Flag Day.

For over two centuries, the Haitian people have celebrated the birth of their flag, and with it their national independence.

The first free state in the Caribbean, the red and blue Haitian flag represents the unity and revolutionary spirit of the Haitian people.

Ontario and Haiti have a long and storied history, and Haitian-Ontarians have made significant achievements, including Firmin Monestime, the first black mayor of a Canadian municipality, serving Mattawa, Ontario for over a decade.

On behalf of the Ontario Liberal Party, I want to wish all those celebrating a Happy Haitian Flag Day!
