MPP Fraser’s statement regarding proposed changes to party status

Since the legislature returned, our caucus has tried many times to engage the government to discuss ensuring that the voices of 1.1 million Ontarians who voted Liberal in the last election could be heard effectively in our legislature.

We have not asked for official party status, what we have asked is for the same support the NDP received in 2003 with half the votes.

What’s Doug Ford afraid of?

Is he afraid of hearing the voices of 1.1 million people holding the government to account in Question Period?

Is he afraid of those same voices at the financial oversight committees of our legislature?

Is he afraid of those same 1.1 million voices are being given fair time in debate?

Doug Ford is thwarting democracy again.

He is changing the rules to try and keep his crisis prone government from answering questions in the people’s house.

Our caucus is here to do a job on behalf of our communities and the 1.1 million Ontarians who voted Liberal.

To ensure the things they count on are there for them when they need them.

Things like their hospitals, their schools, a strong economy, protecting our environment and caring for our most vulnerable.

Our caucus will continue to fight hard to make sure those things are there for all Ontarians.

No obstacle will prevent us from doing that.

The real question is why is Doug Ford afraid of oversight and accountability?
