Del Duca: Premier Stays Silent on Business Rent Relief

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Ontario Liberal Party Leader, made the following statement:

Today is the last day for the Premier to take decisive action to help businesses struggling to make rent on May 1st.

We have heard from many small businesses that their landlords are not participating in the federal/provincial program. Worse, others are being pressured into bad agreements or bankruptcy.

The Premier has the power to do the right thing – and it would not cost the province one penny.

Doug Ford was questioned by Queen’s Park Today on commercial evictions – and while he claimed to support small business, he wouldn’t commit to a moratorium on commercial evictions.

A moratorium on commercial evictions would give small businesses time to negotiate fair agreements. And it would send a message to large landlords that they need to pitch in and be part of the solution.
