Del Duca: Testing Criteria Needs to be Expanded and Ramped Up

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Ontario Liberal Party Leader, made the following statement:

Recent reports indicating that Ontario continues to fall short of its testing capacity for covid-19 are deeply troubling.

We know that broad-based and rapid testing is one of the best ways to truly flatten the curve, and we have seen evidence of this approach being successful in many parts of the world, and even here at home in British Columbia.

Last Friday, I called on the Premier to expand the criteria for testing and I specifically highlighted the need to test the following:

  • All patients with Influenza-like symptoms (ILI)
  • All healthcare professionals (including those, like Personal Support Workers, employed in all Long-Term Care facilities)
  • All asymptomatic patients being asked to self-isolate

Today, the Premier committed to ramping up testing. This must occur without delay and publicly-released confirmation of increased testing must be provided daily.
