Ford’s Giveaways and Self-Absorbed Advertising Wastes Billions of Your Tax Dollars

TORONTO, ON—Today, the Auditor General of Ontario, released a damning report outlining billions of dollars in government waste, giveaways, and Conservative misuse of your tax dollars to promote Doug Ford ahead of a possible early election.

In her report, Ontario’s Auditor General identified that Ford’s Conservative government spent a whopping $103.5 million on advertising—the highest ever recorded government spending on advertisements in Ontario history—$63.7 million of which were ads found to “promote the governing party.”

The Auditor General also found that the Ontario Place redevelopment plans—where the costs for Doug Ford’s sweetheart deal to a foreign-owned, luxury spa company have skyrocketed to over $2 billion—were “not fair, transparent or accountable.”

“At a time when Ontario’s healthcare system is in crisis, Doug Ford is instead choosing to spend billions of your tax dollars to benefit his rich friends and on government advertising that promotes him, and does nothing to help you.

For two terms, Doug Ford has chosen to help his rich friends instead of choosing to help you. This report lays bare the results of that choice. He is failing the real people of Ontario on every metric.

Doug Ford is using government money to seek power for power’s sake, ignoring that you don’t have a family doctor and that he never delivered the tax cut he promised you six years ago. Ontario Liberals will make delivering more for you our top priority.

As Premier, I will investigate and put an end to Doug Ford’s shady backroom deals, and lead a government that delivers more for you.”
