TORONTO, ON — In the wake of Doug Ford’s scandalous snap closure of the Ontario Science Centre, Ontario Liberal leader, Bonnie Crombie, pledged Thursday to investigate all of Doug Ford’s shady backroom deals.
Crombie announced that — should Ontario’s Liberals form the next government — within her first 30 days in office she will launch a comprehensive investigation into all of the Ford Government’s backroom deals and take action on any found to have benefited Conservative insiders or friends of the Ford family, at the expense of hard-working Ontario families.
“From the snap closure of the Ontario Science Centre to the sell-off of Ontario Place to the Greenbelt giveaway, Ford has consistently put his friends first and the people of Ontario last. It’s clear Doug Ford can’t be trusted with your money. I’m committing to undo his shady backroom deals.”
— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals
Ontario’s Liberals, if elected, will appoint a special investigator to conduct a deep dive into Ford’s many backroom deals and determine who benefitted exactly. The list includes:
- The snap closure of the Ontario Science Centre on land primed for development;
- The sell-off of Ontario Place to a foreign-owned spa;
- The sweetheart deal to open ServiceOntario centres in private American-owned stores;
- The billion dollars wasted to pay off multinational corporations and foreign retail giants to speed up the sale of booze in corner and grocery stores;
- The Greenbelt giveaway to his family friends currently being investigated by the RCMP;
- Dozens of crony patronage appointments at public institutions like the LCBO, Ontario Power Generation, the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee and more.
“Every decision Doug Ford makes to benefit his friends has taken money away from you and your family. Our public schools are in disrepair, emergency rooms are closing, and it has become impossible to find an affordable place to live. Doug Ford’s friends are rich enough already — let’s make Ontario work for you.”
— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals
Crombie said her team will provide the special investigator with the mandate and funding necessary to complete their investigation within one year.
