John Fraser Nominated as First Ontario Liberal Candidate

OTTAWA, ON – John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South and Parliamentary Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party (OLP), has become the first nominated candidate across all political parties in Ontario for the next election.

“John is one the hardest working, and most dedicated Members of Provincial Parliament Ontario has ever seen. His commitment to improving the community he serves is unparalleled, and I could not be more fortunate to have him on our team.

Ontario’s Liberal are committed not just to fighting for you, but to fighting with you, shoulder to shoulder, to get ready for the next election, whenever it comes. Because the people of Ontario deserve better than a Premier who puts his rich friends and insiders ahead of you and your family.”

— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals

“I am proud to once again put my name forward as the MPP for Ottawa South. Under Bonnie Crombie’s leadership, we are building a strong team that will focus on the things that matter most to Ontario’s families.

I am incredibly proud to be part of that team. Bonnie’s passion and energy are what we need to defeat Doug Ford and the Conservatives in the next election.”

— John Fraser, MPP and Ontario Liberal Candidate for Ottawa South

First elected in 2013, John Fraser has been re-elected three times. He has also served twice as Interim Leader of the OLP in 2018 and 2022.

After the 2014 election, Fraser was mandated to support the development of the comprehensive strategy for palliative and end-of-life care that Ontario had under the previous Liberal government. It was a mandate he asked for and one that he was grateful to have had. Fraser has long been guided by the firm belief that how we care for each other at the end-of-life is as important as it is at the beginning of our lives.

Fraser has co-sponsored several bills including Rowan’s Law, whose mandate is to increase awareness about concussions in our schools and in amateur sports, and several Private Member Bills The Protecting Passenger Safety Act—which stiffened penalties for individuals who transport passengers for compensation without a licence, permit, or authorization—as well as an Act to proclaim November as Lebanese Heritage Month.

Fraser is married to his high-school sweetheart, Linda, and they have three grown children, Kïrsten, John Jr. and James, and three grandchildren, Vaughn, Sloane and Fraser. He is also the proud puppy parent of Kealey.
