The Dissolution of Peel Region Must be Fair, Honest and Transparent

QUEEN’S PARK Stephen Blais, MPP for Orléans and Ontario Liberal Critic for Municipal Affairs and Housing, has released the following statement in response to the Ford Government’s plans to dissolve the Regional Municipality of Peel:

“If the dissolution of Peel Region is going to be amicable for all three municipalities, it needs to be fair, it needs to be honest, and it needs to be transparent. It’s hard to do that if you don’t have representation from the three cities on the transition board.

“If you look back to Ottawa the transition board was not representative of the various interests and two decades later the City is still living with and disentangling from their mistakes.

“If we’re going to get the dissolution of Peel right, we need representation from all three cities to ensure proper balance, and there needs to be people without any conflicts of interests and pre-determined association or outcomes.”
