DEL DUCA: Doug Ford Must Recall the Legislature Immediately

TORONTO – Ontario Liberals are calling for immediate new action to protect Ontarians, and for Doug Ford to recall the legislature so that we can have an all hands on deck response to Omicron.

“Doug Ford’s shamefully incompetent response to the fifth wave is putting us all at risk,” stated Ontario Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca. “We need to move right now to protect our most vulnerable. No more of Doug Ford’s failures.”

Ontario Liberals would focus on:

  • Aggressively promoting booster shots to increase uptake while expanding access.

  • Recalling the Ontario Legislature to face Omicron with an all hands on deck approach, and to add the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of required vaccines for students.

  • Mandating vaccinations for frontline health and education workers to ensure those caring for our most vulnerable are vaccinated.

  • Using the winter break while kids are home to immediately get HEPA filters into every classroom in Ontario and reduce class sizes.

  • Expanding access to PCR and rapid antigen tests.

  • Protecting workers and entrepreneurs by expanding paid sick leave to 10 provincially-funded sick days and releasing a third round of support for small businesses.

“As a dad with two young daughters, I am in utter shock and disbelief that Doug Ford is doing so little to keep schools open,” added Del Duca. “Our kids are having their best years stolen from them by an incompetent premier who doesn’t believe in science.”
