Liberals in Kitchener South—Hespeler Nominate Ismail Mohamed as 2022 Ontario Liberal Party Candidate

July 13, 2021 – Liberals in Kitchener South—Hespeler have nominated Ismail Mohamed, a community organizer and leader, as their Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) candidate for the next provincial election.

“For over two decades, Ismail has worked tirelessly to improve his community and build a better Ontario for everyone,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “He understands what it means to be a community leader and I am very happy to have him on our team as we prepare for the next provincial election.”

As a first-generation immigrant, Mohamed came to Canada as a teenager with his family in 1993. As someone who has felt first-hand the warm welcome of the Canadian community, he is honoured to be the Ontario Liberal candidate for Kitchener South—Hespeler.

After beginning his career in community development in Ottawa, Mohamed and his wife moved to Kitchener where they now raise their four children who inspire him to continue to serve and better his community. He has sat on numerous committees and worked on projects that reach youth, elderly, under-resourced neighbourhoods, marginalized groups, and persons with disabilities — hearing their voices and working to ensure their needs are met.

As the Liberal MPP, he will actively listen and invite others to be involved in conversations that impact them.

“We must work together as a community to meet Kitchener South—Hespeler’s needs at the structural level,” said Mohamed. “Encouraging stakeholder ownership in problem-solving will result in Kitchener South—Hespeler constituents working together as one united community. I believe in people-centred politics that promote participatory development by delivering meaningful and effective governance and leadership.”
