Statement from Steven Del Duca on Canada Day

“Today, the 37 million women and men who call Canada home will celebrate everything our country stands for — diversity, inclusion, and the promise that everyone, no matter their background, should have the opportunity to succeed.

While this year’s Canada Day festivities will once again look very different — because of the pandemic — I know that Canadians from all across our country will find unique ways to celebrate everything that Canada has to offer. With incredible landscapes, talented and determined individuals, and diverse communities, Canada is truly unlike any other nation – and that’s something we can all be proud of.

This past year, we all made sacrifices to protect one another, but above all, our healthcare heroes and essential workers stepped up to fight the pandemic on the frontlines, and we all owe them our eternal gratitude for showing us what it truly means to be Canadian.

This Canada Day also provides all of us with the chance to pause and reflect on what we can do to make sure that the country we dream of truly matches the reality for all who call Canada home. As recent painful events remind us, we still have so much work to do on Indigenous reconciliation and on eliminating all forms of hateful bigotry and racism, including Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.

On this Canada Day, let’s reflect on our past, be thankful for good health after a difficult year, and celebrate our country’s bright future. On behalf of myself, my family, and the Ontario Liberal Party, I want to wish everyone a Happy Canada Day!”
